'Love Tap' and 'Wish-List': The Ceasefire Survives Its Worst Days as the MOU Stalls, the Strait Burns, and Beirut Is Struck for the First Time Since April

Days 69 and 70 of the Iran War — May 7–8, 2026 — demonstrated what a ceasefire looks like when both sides have concluded it is too useful to abandon and too costly to honour. In Lebanon, Israel struck Beirut's southern suburbs for the first time since the April 17 Lebanon ceasefire — killing three senior Hezbollah commanders including Radwan Force operations chief Ahmad Ghaleb Balout, Nasr intelligence chief Muhammad Ali Bazi, and Aerial Defense Chief Hussein Hassan Rom.
